Growing up in a movie loving family, my Dad and his siblings were in love with Shawshank since it came out in 1994. It was always considered a "family classic". Unfortunately, I first saw Shawshank when I was about 10 years old. The reason it was unfortunate is because I was too young and unappreciative of good movies back then. I thought it was just a boring, long movie that I only watched because of the "cool" curse words. It wasn't until I saw the movie again last year that I can say I really enjoyed it. For starters, the opening track, "If I Didn't Care" by The Ink Spots, really had me feeling like we were in an authentic 40s time period, which is by far my favorite era in American History. Another very important aspect of this film would have to be the acting, performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were one of a kind and totally fresh. Lastly, the way that the director, Frank Darabont, went about making the movie feel timeless was brilliant. He was able to convert 20 years into 2 hours and not leave the audience feeling jipped. I would recommend Shawshank to anyone really, it has a little bit of every genre and does not lack in quality. A must-see.
Casablanca
Well after finally seeing this extremely hyped movie, I have to say that I'm now privy to the hype. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this movie from the classic actors ( Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid ), to the suspenseful setting. In my opinion, Casablanca IS the bar when it comes to Hollywood dramas, and every movie in that genre since has alot to live up to.
